Friends of the Thimble was founded in 1983 as an initiative of the Greif family of the Thimble Museum. Currently there are more than 300 members all over the world, from the Netherlands, France, England, USA and New Zealand. The greatest number, however, come from Germany
Collecting thimbles is enjoyable, even more so, of course, when there is the opportunity to get further information on this topic. New information is published in the club magazine All about thimbles (Rund um den Fingerhut), so that each member has a forum for sharing knowledge with other members. All about Thimbles contains informative articles as well as enlightening stories. Members also have the opportunity to write or ask questions.
The club magazine, financed by membership fees, is published twice a year. Although it is published in German, we have an English translation available. You can order a sample copy by sending $ 10.00.
We are in contact with other thimble clubs around the world and provide up-to-date information about the Thimble Museum in Creglingen.
Twice a year a meeting is organized for members, featuring speeches by experts, thimble swap arrangements and exhibitions. The yearly general meeting is held in May in Creglingen, location of club headquarters. The location for the second meeting in autumn is annually chosen by the members.
Each year the club offers a unique commemorative thimble exclusively for club members to order. The number of pieces of this annual thimble is limited by membership. If there are some pieces left they are offered to new members. The Thimble of the Year is not available for purchase in shops.
Regular membership fee for one year is € 30,00 for the first membership and € 5,00 for a spouse. Family membership entitles you to buy the annual thimble offered by the club. The club magazine is not included.
The club year starts on June 1, but members may join at any time throughout the year.
